The Frankincense in the Three Kings Gift Sets originates from Oman and Yemen, where Balthasar, a king from Saba, obtained his own gift. Our Frankincense is selected from the highest grade available locally, and has a wonderful aromatic scent - the same used in church incense and soothing frankincense oil.

The hand-crafted Frankincense chest is finished in hand-made brass appointments and is filled with the finest resin. The base and lid are satin-lined in red and feature brass appliqués. The box measures 4 1/2 x 3 1/4 inches. Frankincense is a resin derived from the dried sap of the Boswellia tree - a tree that has grown on the craggy slopes of the Arabian Sea for thousands of years. In ancient times, Frankincense and Gold were equally valuable. It is harvested by making slits in the bark of the tree and letting the resin slowly bleed out and harden into white "tears" of Frankincense sap. A classic incense with a sweet aroma, it is used in religious services today the same as it was in ancient times.

Gold was the Gift given by Melchior, a king of Arabia. Our octagonal Gold box holds an American hand-blown glass ball filled with 23-karat gold flakes that float like snowflakes. The ball is specially made so that the multiple curved surfaces reflect and refract the gold so that it dances and sparkles. The gold box, with chain and latch, measures 4 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches.

The square Myrrh box is a satin-lined treasure trove with brass chain and latch and holds the finest Arabian myrrh incense. The box measures 4 1/4 x 3 1/4 inches. Myrrh incense is actually dried myrrh sap - the Gift given by Caspar, a king from Tarsus - present day Southern Turkey. The Myrrh incense supplied with the Three Kings Gifts is the finest available from Southern Arabia - the very same region as the original gifts given by Caspar. Myrrh incense comes from the Cammiphora tree and is harvested by cutting slits in the bark of the tree from which Myrrh resin hardens into dark red crystals. In ancient times, Myrrh was among the most valuable substances known and, at the time of the birth of Christ, it was worth an impressive seven times its weight in gold. Myrrh can be used as an incense or it can be ground into a powder and mixed with oils to make a balm. In ancient times, myrrh was also used in the mummification of the Pharoahs in Ancient Egypt as well as to anoint kings.
