St. Frances Cabrini

The Patron Saint of Immigrants. At eighteen years old she aspired to be a nun but poor health stood in her way, because of this she stayed home and helped around her parent’s house until they passed away. One day a priest asked St. Frances to teach in a girl’s school she stayed for 6 years. When her Bishop requested she founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, who cared for poor children in schools and hospitals. In 1889 she was urged by Pope Leo XII to come to the United States to work with the Italian Immigrants.  She founded schools, hospitals, and orphanages in the U.S.  At the time of her Death in 1917 she help found institutions in England, France, Spain, the United States, and South America.  In 1946 she became the first American Citizen to be canonized. – Feast Day Nov. 13th
