You’ve finally decided to start making rosaries… Congratulations! Rosary making is very fulfilling because you are crafting something that matters. You are creating beautiful spiritual tools to help people pray and grow in faith - that’s pretty cool.

That being said, it can be kind of overwhelming deciding on where to begin. Where do I buy rosary beads? How much are rosary making supplies? What size rosary parts do I need? How do I even make a rosary

If you have lots of questions like these - don’t stress! We’ve got you covered. Here is everything you need to know to jump start your rosary making journey.

What Do I Need to Make a Rosary?

Well… that depends. First, you need to decide if you want to make a chain link rosary or a knotted cord rosary. These are two of the most popular types (and a great place to start if you’re new)! Here are some examples to help you visualize the difference:

                                                                                                                                  rosary types

If you want to make a cord knotted rosary (right), you can guess what you need - CORD. All joking aside, some people like to use a metal crucifix instead of creating the knotted cord crucifix as pictured above. Some people will also attach a metal saint medal above the centerpiece knot once the rosary is completed. This extra detail can add a personal finishing touch for the recipient just by including one of their favorite saint medals!

Making a chain link rosary is a bit more intensive, but like anything, practice makes perfect. Personally, my first chain link rosary took me a while to complete. Before you embark on this journey, be sure to set aside a few hours in which you are able to show up with a positive attitude and a lot of patience. You will get the hang of rosary making before you know it!
